How can medication management help me?

At LA Integrative Psychiatry, our medication management service focuses on finding psychiatric medications that fit your needs, with close attention to benefits and side effects. Our comprehensive approach involves regular monitoring and adjustments to optimize your treatment and support your mental health and well-being.

What is Medication Management?

Medication Management involves the careful oversight of your psychiatric medications by a qualified healthcare provider. This includes evaluating the effectiveness of your medications, monitoring for side effects, and making necessary adjustments to your treatment plan. The goal is to help you get the most benefit from your medications with as few side effects as possible.

Benefits of Medication Management

    • Personalized Care: Tailored medication plans to meet the individual needs and goals of each patient.
    • Regular Monitoring: Ongoing review of how your medications are working and any side effects, so your plan can be adjusted when needed.
    • Integrated Approach: Combines medication management with other therapeutic modalities for comprehensive care.
    • Supportive Environment: Provides a supportive and non-judgmental space to discuss your medication needs and concerns.

How do I approach medication management?

Personalized Care

At LA Integrative Psychiatry, I believe in a personalized approach to medication management. Each individual’s response to medication can vary, and I tailor treatment plans to address your specific needs and challenges. During our sessions, we will discuss your symptoms, treatment goals, and any concerns you may have about your medications.

Collaborative Process

Medication management is a collaborative effort between the patient and the healthcare provider. I work closely with you to find the medication and dose that fit you, and I adjust them as needed. This collaborative approach keeps your treatment plan tailored to your needs and adjusted as needed over time.

Focus on Safety and Efficacy

My approach emphasizes the importance of safety and efficacy in medication management. This includes regular monitoring for side effects, interactions with other medications, and overall effectiveness. By closely monitoring your treatment, I can make timely adjustments to help you get the most benefit from your medications.

Commitment to Your Success

Your success in managing your mental health is my top priority. I am dedicated to providing a supportive and non-judgmental environment where you can discuss your medication needs and concerns openly. Together, we will adjust your medication plan to support your mental health and overall well-being.

Medication management can also include therapy in the same visits, so one provider sees the full picture. Our guide to finding a psychiatrist that does both therapy and medication management explains how combined care works and when it fits.

Who Can Benefit From Medication Management?

Medication management may help adults who take, or are thinking about starting, medication for a mental health condition. We often support people with depression, anxiety and panic, ADHD, OCD, and mood disorders. It can also help if a current medication is not working well, causes side effects, or you want a second opinion on your plan.

Who manages my medication?

Your medication is managed by Knarik Oganesyan, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC, our board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner. She sees adults 18 and older, in person in Burbank or by telehealth anywhere in California, and can provide therapy in the same visits. Read more about our provider.

What happens at a psychiatric evaluation and follow-up visits?

Your first visit is a full psychiatric evaluation. We review your symptoms, health history, current medications, and any past medications that did or did not help. Together we decide whether to start, change, or keep a medication.

Follow-up visits are usually shorter. We ask how you feel, check for side effects, and make small changes when needed. Visits may be closer together when you start or change a medication. Many people do best with medication and therapy together, and we also offer cognitive behavioral therapy.

Medication Management Questions

Do I need a diagnosis first?

No. If you do not have one yet, your first visit includes an evaluation. If you do, bring your records and a list of current medications.

Can medication management be done by telehealth?

Yes, for adults located in California. Some medications have extra rules for telehealth prescribing, and we will explain them if they apply to you.

How often will I have visits?

It depends on your plan. Visits are often closer together when you start or change a medication, and spread out once things are stable.
