Medication-assisted treatment in Burbank combines FDA-approved medication with counseling to treat opioid and alcohol use disorder. If you or someone you love is ready to stop using and stay well, our board-certified providers can help. We accept most major insurance plans and offer both in-office and telehealth visits.
Medication-assisted treatment, often called MAT, pairs a prescribed medication with counseling and regular check-ins. The medication lowers cravings and eases withdrawal so the brain can heal. This approach is considered a standard of care for opioid and alcohol use disorder by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Research shows MAT may help people stay in treatment longer and lower the risk of return to use.
MAT is not trading one drug for another. The medicines used are prescribed, monitored, and dosed to keep you stable and clear-headed. You stay in control of your day while your body and mind recover.
MAT can help adults living with opioid use disorder, including addiction to fentanyl, heroin, or prescription painkillers. It also helps adults with alcohol use disorder who want to cut back or stop. Many of our patients also live with anxiety, depression, or trauma. As a psychiatric practice, we can treat those conditions alongside your addiction care, which the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) notes often occur together.
We offer the main FDA-approved medications for opioid and alcohol use disorder. Your provider will help you choose the option that fits your health, your schedule, and your goals.
Suboxone is a daily film or tablet that dissolves under the tongue. It reduces opioid cravings and withdrawal and can be taken at home once you are stable. Learn more on our Suboxone treatment in Burbank page.
Sublocade is a once-monthly injection given in our office. It suits patients who prefer not to take a daily medicine. Most people start on Suboxone first, then switch once stable. See our Sublocade provider page for details.
Naltrexone treats both opioid and alcohol use disorder. It comes as a daily pill or as Vivitrol, a monthly injection. It is not an opioid and carries no risk of misuse. You must be free of opioids for 7 to 10 days before starting. Read our Vivitrol and naltrexone treatment page to see if it fits you.
Your first visit is a full evaluation. We review your health history, your goals, and any other conditions you are managing. We check California’s prescription monitoring database and confirm what your insurance covers. Then we build a plan with you. Follow-up visits track how you feel and adjust your dose as needed.
Many follow-up visits can be done by telehealth from anywhere in California, so care fits around work and family. Every visit is private and judgment-free.
Most major insurance plans cover medication-assisted treatment. Our Burbank practice accepts Anthem, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and Medicare, and we verify your benefits before your first visit. If you do not have coverage, ask about our self-pay options. You will always know the cost before care begins.
Starting is simple. Call us or request an appointment online, and we will schedule your evaluation. Bring a list of your current medications and your insurance card. If you are in active withdrawal or crisis, tell us so we can help sooner. You can also connect with our broader addiction psychiatry services in Burbank for care beyond medication.
Yes. The medications used are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and prescribed by a licensed provider who monitors your care. They have been used safely for years when taken as directed.
It depends on the medication. Buprenorphine works best when mild withdrawal has begun. Naltrexone and Vivitrol require you to be opioid-free for 7 to 10 days first. Your provider will guide the timing so it is safe and comfortable.
Often, yes. Current rules allow buprenorphine to be started and managed by telehealth for a set period, with an in-office visit as your care continues. We will explain what your plan requires at your first visit.
There is no set end date. Some people use MAT for months, others for years. You and your provider decide together, based on how you feel and how stable you are.
Yes. Naltrexone and Vivitrol are used for alcohol use disorder as well as opioid use disorder. We treat both at our Burbank office.
